A Study on Remote Sensing Perspective Depth into Water in Visible Band

Liang Shunlin and Chen Bingxian (Nanjing Unieversity)  
In this paper, the concept of remote sensing perspective depth ZR is put forward based on the analysis of sunlight penetration depth Z90 and the consideration of water optical property, atmospheric condition, receiving and recording characteristic of sensor, and human interpretation level in an all-round way. An effort is made to deduce the relationship between ZR and Z90. The computation using magnetic tape code of low gain Landsat MSS4, MSS5 and the simulation computation using Monte-Carlo method of ZR are made with different suspended matter and chlorophyll concentrations is waters. The results show that a great divergence exists between ZR and Z90.
