Distribution of the intertidal macrobenthos in the Haizhouwan Bay

The intertidal zone between land and ocean provides rich biological resources for the human being,while gets double impacts of the natural environment and human activities. In order to find out the distribution of the biologic resource in the intertidal zone where the Shandong and Jiangsu province meet,macrobenthos were investigated in June 2002 in the Haizhouwan Bay and 98 species were found,in which 13 species are flocculent creature,53 Mollusks,25 Crustaceans,2 Echinodermata and 5 others. Mollusks and Crustaceans makes up 80%. The average biomass and density are 257.30 g/m2 and 953 ind/m2 respectively,in which mollusks amount for 78% (201.19 g/m2) and 76% (727 ind/m2) respectively. Similarity cluster analysis and multi-dimensional scaling results in three communities which,that is,rocky,sandy and muddy beach communities. Analysis of the ecological features and relevant environmental factors shows that the species of macrobenthos in muddy communityin rocky communityin sandy community; the biomass,density,diversity index and equality index in rocky communityin muddy communityin sandy community; and the TE section dominant species of the muddy community are obvious,and thus the diversity index and equality index of the section are much lower than the other two sections. The distribution of macrobenthos of the sandy community and rocky community is influenced by the bathing beach and the freight dock with many man-made activities. And the difference of distribution of the muddy community is mostly influenced by the openness of the coast,the action of ocean current and tide,the shellfish culture and the distribution of dominant species. The muddy beach is an important place for shellfish culture. For the healthy growth of the culture species,the water quality at the sewage outlet and the environmental quality of the sediment in the culture area should be periodically monitored.
