Study on VPPAW Arc Stability

In this paper, the arc stability of WPAW is analyzed in detail and a new method has been proposed on the basis of experiment. Being different from the conventional method in power supply and wire connection, the new method can overcome the interference of plasma arc with pilot arc and the deterioration of tungsten, improving the stability of PAW arc effectively. Tests show that adopting the new method to weld aluminium, magnesium and their alloys, the arc stabiligy, cathode cleaning and weld appearance are satisfactory.
