LUMINESCENT PHENOMENA OF ROCK SAMPLES DURING THEIR RUPTURE PROCESS UNDER UNIAXIAL COMPRESSION

In this paper, the luminescent phenomena of the granite and quartz rock samples, as they are ruptured under the uniaxial compression experiments are describee!, with no such phenomena observed for the limestome samples under the same conditions. The experimental results also show that the luminescence of the granite and quartz rock samples during their rupture processes is accompanied by very intensive electromagnetic radiation and acoustic emission. Such results provide a fairly good experimental evidence for studying the sound, light and eletromagnetic phenomena before earthquake occurrences. A preliminary discussion is made on the features and mechanism of luminescent phenomena of the rock samples during their rupture process.
