A SIMULATION EXPERIMENT ON THE RUPTURE PROCESS IN MULTI-LOCKED SEGMENTS

The locked segments are simulated using the organic glass glue with rheology and viseoelasticity and the organ'c glass plate is used as the model material. Under the uniaxial pressure, the result of the equi-speed loading shows: (1) There is an obvious accelerated process of ruptures in each locked segment, the rupture time and interval time are all in exponential form; (2) The crack sequence in every locked segment is random and it is not influenced by the length of the locked segment and the arrangement order; (3) The rupture in each locked segment is composed of many independent minor ruptures, which shows changes from scatering to density.The experimental results are compared with the sequence of large earthquakes with M7 in the third and fourth active periods in North China, both are of good consistence.
