PREL IMINARY STUDY ON THE RELATION BETWEEN GEOTEMPERATURE AND STRONG EARTHQUAKES

Zhang Zhitao(Xi' an Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources)  
Provided that the average monthly imcrement of the shallow geotemperature beneath the depth of 0.8m is greater than 1℃ and it is regarded as "anomaly", during 1955 -1985, there were 53 cases of earthquakes with Ms≥6 in China's continent, before those events anomaty of the shallow geotemperature occurred. Therefore, observation of the shallow geotemperature may be used as one of the strong earthquake prediction methods.
