Numerical Simulation on Welding Stress Field of Simplified Model for Francis Turbine Runner

The runner model stress field caused by welding was simulated on the basis of determining the simplified model of Francis turbine runner , realizing the thermal source loading of multi-pass welding and solving the problem of thermal conduction between independent entities in case contact boundary nodes can not properly meet. Evolvement process of longitudinal stress and residual stress field after welding are obtained. The simulation result shows that maximal welding stress appears along the adjacent area between blades and crown or blades and band. The result can better explain the reasons of the fatigue cracks appearing and extending on turbine runner blades.
