The Development and Utilization of the Resources in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River

It is essential and strategically significant to develop and utilize the energy and mineral resources in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.With the rich water energy and mineral resources,the upper reaches of the Yangtze River have a great potential for further development and utilization.However,the low level of development and utilization makes it ur gent to take an active part in the regional and inter national e-conomic cooperation,promote rational devel opment and utilization of the energy and mineral re sources and carry out sustainable development strate gy.Therefore,efforts shoule be make to fully take the opportunities of Chi na's entry into WTO and the development of the western regions.By improving the environment of in vestment and attracting more foreign capital,tech-nolo gies and information,a solid foundation is estab-lished for the development and utilization of the ener -gy and mineral resources in the upper reach es of the Yangtze River.
