Multi-objective Parameter Optimization and Regression Analysis of EDM for SiC/Al Functionally Graded Materials

The Electrical discharge machining process of Si C/Al functionally graded materials with Si C mass fraction of 5% was tested by orthogonal test and gray correlation analysis. The effects of parameters on the removal rate of the material and the relative loss rate of the electrode were studied.The multi-linear regression equation of material removal rate,electrode relative loss rate and synthesis index was established. The results shows that the impact on the synthesis index is from peak to secondary,namely pulse width,pulse interval,lift knife height,processing voltage and peak current.Optimized processing parameters is the peak current of 10 A,the pulse width of 200 μs,the pulse interval of 50 μs,processing voltage of 50 V,lift knife height of 3 mm,compared with unoptimized material removal rate decreased by 5.8%,the electrode relative loss rate decreased 51.8%. The established regression model provides theoretical guidance for the study of electrical discharge machining processing of Si C/Al functionally graded materials.
