Electronic pole changing technique of multi-phase induction motor

For constant-power speed regulation,the operational range of traditional induction motor drive system is limited.To solve this problem,electronic pole changing of multiphase induction motor is proposed to realize wide constant-power range speed regulation.Based on the concept of multiple control freedom,in a multiphase motor,harmonics currents produce magnetic fields with different pole pair number,which are controlled in different orthogonal planes by slip frequency control to realize electronic pole-changing without cutting off the power.Pole-changing experiments for a 9 phase induction motor is presented.The experimental results verify that it is feasible for multiphase induction motor to realize pole-changing without cutting off the power and the method proposed could effectively extend the operational range of multiphase motor.
