THE EARTH EXPANSION COULD BE THE CAUSE FOR FORMING THE CRUSTAL HORIZONTAL EXTRUSION STRESS

Starting from the viewpoint of earth expansion and passing through the analysis of the difference between two big kinds of lithospheres in ocean and continent, the model of earth expansion is discussed and it is studied that how the horizontal extrusion stress in crust is produced. Thereby the feature of stress field in crust and upper mantle is understood and the formation formula of two horizontal principal stress is obtained. And also the generated and developed procedure of folding movement in uppermost crust of continent, the possible cause of folded zone and earthquake, and the pattern of decomposition and separation of each continents in the process of expansion are discussed by analyzing the action of each stress direction in stress field. Finally, from the computation of the stress formation formula, it is shown that the theoretical value is basically consistent with mean of the practical measurement.

8 MA Wen-tao LI Hai-ou YANG Zhu-en CHEN Gui-huaCHEN Xian-cheng YANG Qing-yuan DENG Zhi-hui SUN Qian(National Center for Active Fault Studies,Institute of Geology,China Earthquake Administration,Beijing 100029,China)In the paper,the seismic damage to reservoirs in Sichuan Province has been analyzed by field investigation and data collection of the damages of the MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake.The results show that the damage of the MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake is 1 or 3 degrees higher than the seismic intensities provided by the reservoir seismic safety assessments in Sichuan Province.This reveals certain questions behind the reservoir seismic safety assessment in this region.Because of the short earthquake record history,there has been no predicting of earthquake larger than the largest magnitude of historical earthquake,and thus,the risk of the Lomenshan active fault was greatly underestimated,resulting that fissures,seepage and partial collapse occurred widely on the dams of many reservoirs.The paleoearthquake method is an important means of distinguishing active fault in reservoir seismic risk assessment and improving the accuracy and reliability of the assessment results.MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake,seismic safety assessment,reservoir;VERIFYING THE RESERVOIR SEISMIC SAFETY ASSESSMENTS IN SICHUAN PROVINCE WITH THE M_S8.0 WENCHUAN EARTHQUAKE[J];Seismology and Geology;2008-03
