POSSIBILITY OF APPLICATION OF GPS TECHNIQUE TO VERTICAL DEFORMATION MEASUREMENT

For a long time, the geodetists take interest in height datum to be transferred at long distance by the GPS technique.The main problem is that the accurate difference between geoid and ellipsoid should be known when using GPS to transfer height datum.In the other hand,in the particular case of vertical deformation measurement,the height variation rather than the height itself is concerned. It is proposed in this paper that the variation of height difference in the leveling can be substituted with the variation of U component in station coordinate system in and subsidence monitoring and the possible factors and magnitudes of the error are analyzed. On the basis of the successive contrast between GPS and precise leveling from 1995 to 1998,the actuall precision of the proposed method is tested. It is proved that the precise leveling may be substituted with the GPS technique to transfer the height datum in land subsidence monitoring.
