CRUSTAL DEFORMATION MONITORING NETWORK FOR THREE GORGES PROJECT ON YANGTZE RIVER

Xing Chanfei, Gong Kaihong and Du Ruilin(Institute of Seismology, CSB, Wuhan 430071)  
Since crustal deformation monitoring network for Three Gorges Project on Yangtze River has been built, high precision geodesy technology, such as GPS, INSAR, leveling, gravimetry, range found with laser, continuous deformation monitoring in cavity and etc, have been used as well. The crustal deformation monitoring network with high precision and high resolving power is integrated by dot, line and plane in space domain and long, short and impending in time domain. This network can detect the information of dynamic strain change and stress change as well as the main faultage action, in the area, particularly in the head of the Three Gorges reservoir. This network can help the prediction and research of the earthquake which is induced by the reservoir and can also be used in the area of weather service, earth slide monitoring and other geologic disaster. This monitoring network was begun to be built at the end of 1997 and finished in June, 2001. Heretofore, we have detected a lot of valuable observation data from this network that surely can bring us enormous benefit in the economic and social field.
