WAVELET DECOMPOSITION OF REPEATED GRAVITY DATA AND TECTONIC ACTIVITIES IN FRONT AREA OF THREE GORGES RESERVOIR

The gravity observation data obtained from the front area of the Three Gorges reservoir since Aug. 1989 are decomposed by wavelet method. The main characters of the decomposition results are described. The decomposition results combined with the tectonic activity characters of the area are explained. The 1st order wavelet decomposition details are main part of the gravity changes in Three Gorges area, which indicates that the gravity changes in the area are mainly result from the matter density changes in the upper part of the crust. The relation between the earthquake %M%s3.7 that occurred at the right side of the gravity network in Aug. 10th, 1997 and the wavelet decomposition results of gravity changes in the area is discussed.
