METHODS AND PROGRAM DESIGN OF STRAIN COMPUTATION FROM GPS DEFORMATION DATA

This paper analyzes the methods for calculating strains in plane coordinate system and geodetic coordinate system and their characteristics respectively. We have designed a software, GPS strain based on the Matlab platform for computing strain in the two coordinate systems,which can be used to compute shear strain components γ-1,γ-2 , area strain, block rotation, principal strains and their directions, maximum shear strain and its direction,and the uncertainties of all the components can be computed as well.Besides, Gaussian projection is included in the software package,and thus Delaunay triangles can be formed automatically from all GPS geodetic coordinates, and displayed in graphics mode. Taking the GPS station velocities in northeastern China as an example, this paper analyzes and discuses preliminarily the parts of computational results.
