PRELIMINARY STUDIES ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN NEIGHBOURING ACTIVE FAULTS

Analytical expressions of the resultant stress are presented,which express the resultant effects of many source faults on the potential faults. Adjusting values of resultant stress after earthquake can be calculated in order to provide evidence for determining the stability of potential active faults.The resultant stress includes not only the normal stress on the fault plane but also the shear stress on the fault plane,by which the description of stress field is more effective than by single stress. At last, the triggering action of earthquake fault movement on the adjacent seismogenic zone is expressed using an actual earthquake example (Luhuo M 7.5 occurred in 1973).
