FRACTAL CHARACTERIZATION AND SPATIAL RESOLUTION OF DYNAMIC GRAVITY NETWORK IN WESTERN YUNNAN

The methods for using the fractality to describe the inhomogeneous distribution of the measuring stations of geophysical network and for using both the fractal characterization and Shannon′s theorem to determine the optimum grid interval are reported. The fractal characterization of dynamic gravity net in western Yunnan province is researched,its fractal dimension D f =1.27 and the optimum grid interval r 0 =28km are calculated. At the last, the reliability of gravity changes before 8 earthquakes of M s5.0, occurred in and round the network from 1986 to 1994,was discussed.The wavelengths of these changes are all bigger than 100km, and at least twice of the spatial resolution of the net, and so they are reliable.
