Influence of frictional pressure drop along horizontal wellbore on well productivity

Frictional pressure drop within the wellbore is frequently a controlling factor on the performance of long horizontal wells.The frictional pressure drop could be especially significant in wells completed with screens and slotted liners.For a single phase steady system,considering the pressure drop created by friction and the character of the variable mass flow in the wellbore,a variable mass model with pressure gradient is developed by coupling the percolation in reservoir with the flow in the wellbore.The model equations are solved numerically.The effects of the friction on well productivity is discussed from the sensitivity analysis.As an application of the result,the optimum horizontal well length can be calculated with this model.
