Present situation and prospect of application for finite element numerical simulation of palaeotectonic stress fields

Sun Xiaoqing(College of Geo-Resources and Information,China University of Petroleum,Dongying 257061,China).  
It has been an effective way to study the palaeotectonic stress fields using the technique of finite element numerical simulation of palaeotectonic stress fields.The technique can quantitatively calculate the whole time-space change of the palaeotectonic stress-fields in a petroliferous basin,which has a important theoretical and practical significance for the reservoir characterization and analysis of hydrocarbon migration in a petroliferous basin.The paper introduces the present situation of application about the finite element numerical simulation of palaeotectonic stress fields and discusses its development situation.
