Study on the Performance of Special Vacuum Breaker for Switching Capacitor Banks

Restrike caused by cutting shunt capacitor banks with vacuum breaker may lead to sever switching over voltage,which causes great damage to power apparatus.Reducing vacuum breaker' restrike rate is the ultimate solution to limit over voltage incited by cutting shunt capacitor banks.In this work,a new method of limiting the vacuum breaker' restrike rate is proposed based on the analysis of restrike mechanism.This method applies a resistor to the vacuum breaker,which can limit switch-on inrush current and the recovery voltage of break,and further reduce the restrike rate of vacuum switches when cutting shunt capacitor banks.
