Organizational characteristics and management innovation in modern universities

Modern universities are social organizations with knowledge as their operation materials, and disciplines as their basic structures. They have the academic and the scientific characteristics, as well as the quality of being specialistic in different fields, and they also have high degree of freedom, comparatively loose structures, and divers objectives. In order to keep in line with the current situation of higher education being internationalized, popularized, and diversified, universities have to take into account the strengthening of internal management innovation according to their organizational characteristics. Due to the impact of external and internal forces, it is imperative that we implement managment innovation and build up a self\|control system for independent development by adjusting organizational structures as well. This paper analyzes the organizational characteristics of modern universities from the following aspects: basic characteristics of university organizations; dual\|function properties; basic characteristics of essential factors; and characteristics of structures, culture and forces. Thus it offers its ideas of possible ways to achieve management innovation in modern universities from different aspects of organizational goals, structures, culture and systems.
