The Revival of Virtue Ethics and the Moral Construction of Contemporary China

YANG Bao School of Humanities and Social Sciences,Wuhan Textile University,Wuhan 430073,China
In the western ethics the journey from stressing rules to reconsidering and returning to virtue has taught us that virtue plays an important and indispensable role in the development of human civilization since 1950's.In contemporary China it is obvious that many moral problems to a great extent have something to do with the realistic circumstances and construction of virtue. The revival of virtue ethics can give us good enlightenment to the moral construction of contemporary China. In theory it needs regarding rules as the basis, and virtues as the aim because of the close relation between rules and virtues. In practice it needs not only stressing both the construction of ethicalization of systems and systemization of the ethics, but also stressing the construction of social beliefs and ethic system, mastering their dialectic unity.
