Analysis on Dynamics of Cultivated Land Quantity in Changshu City Based on Remote Sensing Data

Based on integrated technology of RS and GIS, a remote sensing survey of land use is conducted, and vector data of land use of 1984, 1992, 1999 and 2001 are attained. The land use survey shows that the area of cropland is decreasing continuously for its conversion to other land use type. The decreasing area of cropland is about 5 868 hm2 from 1984 to 1992,5 612 hm2 from 1992 to 1999, and is 5 754 hm2 from 1999 to 2001. There is 56.7 percent of lost cultivated land converting to dweller land, 36.6 percent to water region, and 5.4 percent to traffic land from 1984 to 1992.There is 47.3 percent of lost cultivated land converting to dweller land, 45.7 percent to water region, and 7.0 percent to traffic land from 1992 to 1999.There is 95.6 percent of lost cultivated land converting to water region, 2.4 percent to dweller land, and 1.3 percent to traffic land from 1999 to 2001.The adjustment of agricultural land structure has become the most important cause of decreasing cultivated land since 1999, while this conversion is not reversible in current condition. It is urgent to establish long-and-middle-term-developing plan of this area by macro-manoeuvre and policy guide. 
