Complex Adaptive System Theory and Cellular Automaton Model in Simulating Urban Growth

Based on the complex adaptive system theory and Cellular Automaton model,an urban growth model is developed.The model is applied to simulate the urban growth of Xi'an City.The results suggest that the model based on adaptability mechanism can represent the characteristics and rules of city development,especially for the “Unurbanization”.Some of the results can bring about directive value to urban planning.
