Despeckle Evaluation of ERS-2 PRI SAR Image and Its Application on Land Use/Cover Classification

SAR speckle are inherent as a result of particularity of SAR imaging principles and its signal process complexity.Thus,despeckle of SAR is the first step for further processing and applying.In this paper,several different typical despeckle filters,such as mean filter,median filter,Lee filter,Kuan filter and Gamma MAP filter,were applied to the ERS-2 PRI SAR image.According to results of quantitative evaluation for the despeckle images,Gamma MAP is taken for the best filter.Basing on five multi-temperal despeckle ERS-2 images,land use/cover classification was applied in the study of a case using the Gamma MAP method.
