Study on particulates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in flue gas from thermal power plants

The particulates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)in flue gas before and after the electrostatic precipitator were collected from a typical power plant.The micro-morphology,size distribution of particulates and the contents of PAHs in particulates,gas phase and coal were measured and studied.The results showed that the particulates were mainly round and composed of Al2O3 and SiO2,before the ESP size distribution was mainiy in the range of 5μm~10μm whereas after it the particulates was all smaller than 5μm.The removal efficiency of the ESP for big particles was higher than that for small particulates(less than 5μm).There were more low ring-number components of PAHs in gas phase than that in particulates and there were more high ring-number components of PAHs in the particulates,but for medium ring-number it was equivalent in the two phases.The average removal efficiency of PAHs by the ESP was 89.75% and the removal efficiency of four-ring and six-ring PAHs were even more than 90%.
