Prospects of Application of GIS in Power Grid Planning

Aside many theoretical achievements made in the field of power grid planning,actual planning still mainly depends on the designers’experience without the assistance of efficient auxiliary software.This paper describes the actual process of the power grid planning at present,and then builds the framework of auxiliary function of GIS in the planning with analysis of the realization courses of each function and its possible results.The results show that the spatial database software technology,which is based on GIS such as Mapinfo and ArcGIS,can provide a stable application platform for the development and design of the auxiliary function of the power grid planning,and therefore enjoys a good prospect of application.
