Cai Jianming (Institute of Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing\ 100101)
Apart from the four basic driving forces for urbanization process in the whole world (i.e. the spatial aggregation of industries; the economic structural transferring; intensification of urban rural and urban urban interactions and technology progress), the author argued that there do exist some special driving forces for Chinese urbanization process. Among them, the most important ones are: multi effects of the administration centers; policy orientations; changes of administrative regionalization; influence of the giant construction projects; driving forces of foreign investments and some special factors, such as defense requirements, border trading and tourism, etc.. After analyzing the driving forces, the author put forward some strategies for the future development of Chinese urbanization, such as the development of rural enterprises; management of household registration system; management of urban landuse, and etc..
