Application of cracked beam element to analysis of cracked crankshaft

The variation of the vibration behavior of the crankshaft due to the crack is investigated. Aiming at the ordinary state of the crack, the method for calculating element stiffness matrix of a rectangular section spatial beam with a transverse crack is proposed. First, the cracked beam element is verified by analyzing the modal of a cracked cantilever beam, and then applied to simulate the crack presented at inner corner of crankshaft. Based on these, the finite element model of a cracked fourinline crankshaft is presented, and modal and dynamic responses with various crack depths are analyzed. All of these are acted as the cornerstone for inspecting the crack in the crankshaft by vibration analysis.
