Earthquake damage investigation and analysis of reinforced concrete frame structures in Wenchuan earthquake

To further understand the reasons of the damage of reinforced concrete frame structures during Wenchuan earthquake,some typical damaged appearances of frame structures are summarized and the reasons of damage are analyzed according to the rules described in the Code for Seismic Design of Buildings,including the damages around the aseismic joint,damages due to uneven distribution of stiffness or strength along vertical direction,damages in the beams,columns and nodes of frame structures,damages of enclosed walls and stairs.Based on the analysis results,some methods to enhance the safety of frame structures are proposed.The research results can provide a reference for seismic design of frame building structures and revision of corresponding codes and regulations so that the frame structure can achieve the seismic protective objective of undamage for small earthquake,repairable damage for moderate earthquake and uncollapse for severe earthquake.
