Experimental investigation of soil seismic deformation property

Based on a large number of static pore-pressure softening tests and dynamic tests,the analysis for seismic deformation and softening property of saturated soft soils are studied. It is shown by the tests that the saturated sand has a catastroph property which shows almost no softening phnomenon before reaching a certain pore pressure ratio, while the saturated soft clayey soils present a gradually increasing residual seismic deformation and apparent softening phnomenon. It is possible to differentiate the softening effect and effect of inertia forces induced by earthquake shaking based on the contrast between the static tests and dynamic tests.Consequently, these two kinds of effects can be taken into consideration to calculate the soil seismic deformation, and therefore this calculation is more reasonable. With regard to the corresponding calculation it will be presented in another paper.
