Selection of Fault Phases Based on Wavelet Transform

The selection methods of mother wavelet are analyzed. A complex wavelet is selected as mother wavelet. To get the best performance of wavelet transform, the principles of selecting fault phases are analyzed and a new criterion is presented. The new criterion fully utilizes the results of wavelet transform and distills more comprehensive information to select fault phases. Simulation results prove that the criterion is not influenced by fault type, transition resistance, or initial phase angle. It can instantly select the fault phases. The method has many advantages such as simple algorithm, accurate discrimination results and strong immunity to disturbance.
