Particle Swarm Optimization and Its Applications in Power Systems

WEI Xing, CUI Peng-cheng (Wuhan University, Wuhan 430072, China)  
Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a new optimization technique. This method is easy to implement and possesses excellent performance. It has a few parameters needing to be tuned. The basic principles of PSO are presented. Various improvements and applications of PSO in power system are suggested. The research trends towards the applications in the future is predicated.
