Antioxidant activity of polysaccharide extracted from abalone gonad

Crude abalone gonad polysaccharide(CAGP) was extracted from gonad of abalone Haliotis Discus Hannai Ino by protease hydrolysis and ethanol precipitation.For normal mice,CAGP can improve CAT activity and T-AOC(P0.01) at dosage of 200 mg/kg,and significantly reduce the MDA content in blood and liver and MAO activity in brain tissue(P0.01).For oxidatively damaged rats,CAGP can protect damage from alloxan.The SOD activity and T-AOC were significantly increased in the rat administered with 200 mg/kg of CAGP(P0.01).MDA content in blood was also significantly reduced(P0.01).Results suggested that CAGP could enhance the antioxidant activity in both normal mice and oxidatively damaged rats,which could be applied in antioxidant functional food development.
