SVC Applications in Power Transmission Systems

LIN Hai-xue (China Electric Power Research Institute, Beijing 100085, China)  
This paper introduced the applications of static var compensator (SVC) in high voltage power transmission system, which mainly included improving the voltage control, enhancing steady stability and transient stability, increasing the power transfer capability, reducing temporary over-voltages, providing additional damping for power oscillations and sub-synchronous resonance, reactive compensation of AC-DC converters and HVDC links. Nowadays, state networks are developing rapidly. SVCs will be used broadly in power systems while the national product has been made with success.
