Annual changes in physiological conditions of sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus cultivated in a pond

The respiratory metabolism,intestinal contents and several enzymatic activities in the alimentary canal were monthly determined in cultivated sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus.There were one peaks and a minimum of the physiogical indexes within a year.The maximal oxygen consumption was observed in June(0.0206 mg/(kg·h)) and in October(0.0162 mg/(kg·h)),while the minimal occurred in February(0.003 mg/(kg·h))and September(0.0126 mg/(kg·h)).The ammonia excretion rate was found to be the maximum in June(0.9706 μg/(g·h))and October(0.5740 μg/(g·h)),and the minimal in January(0.0629 μg/(g·h))and August(0.2587 μg/(g·h)).The sea cucumber had the maximal intestinal contents in April and November(over 80%),and the minimal in January(10%) and July(0%).The activities of protease,amylase,and GPT increased in March(165.9,674,107.61 U) and October(132,636,98 U),and decreased in December(75,457,50 U) and May-June(68.96,397.44,53.16 U).The high phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activities in the intestines were observed in March(177.35,624.27 U) and October(168.37,666.04 U),and the low ones in January(115.67,493.04 U),and July-August(85.20,446.16 U).
