Investigation of Intense Cooling Technology Following TIG Dressing

Residue stresses of weld toe of butt joints as weld,TIG dressing and following intense cooling treatment were measured respectively by hole drilling method.The microstructures and mechanical properties of the welded joints were also investigated.The results indicate that the residue tensile stress in the weld toe was transformed into compressive stress after intense cooling treatment on the surface of TIG dressed region at 550℃,and that no brittleness occurs in the TIG-dressed zones,and mechanical properties of the welded joints fulfill technological requirements.
