Mechanochemical Synthesis of Mg-Al Layered Double Hydroxides

The precursor prepared by magnesium-aluminium layered double hydroxides(Mg-Al LDHs) is synthesized using Mg(OH)2 and Al(OH)3 as the magnesium and aluminum sources plus NaHCO3 by mechanochemical route.The influences of grinding time,Mg-A1 molar ratio,the ball and powder ratio,temperature and time on the hydrotalcite grain size and morphology were investigated.Crystal structure and grain size of the hydroxides were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.Experiment results show that with increasing Mg-Al ratio and the ratio of ball to powder,the crystal structure tends to integrate,and grain size becomes greater.
