OPTIMAL CONTROL OF VOLTAGE AND REACTIVE POWER IN POWER SYSTEMS

This paper describes a non-linear programming algorithm for the optimization of voltage and reactive power in the electric power system.The reduced gradient method is used in the algorithm.Some new approaches have been achieved by means of elaborate choice of original optimal point to raise the optimization level,synthetical application of penalty function and node-type transformation as well as other methods to satisfy the inequal constraints.A practical program using this algorithm has been developed and passed the appraisal.The active power loss in the network as the objective function has achieved an advanced level in China.The tap of transformers,compensating capacitor groups and reactors can be calculated and the results can be integralized automatically.The pro gram can be used conveniently and flexibly,and is able to run on IBM PC for those networks in which the nodes are up to 150.The reactive power-voltage characteristics of the loads in the network is taken into account in the program.There are 7 electric power boards in China using this program now.
