DISTRIBUTION AUTOMATION COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OVER IP TECHNOLOGY

The requirements of distribution automation (DA) for communication sys tem are analyzed. According to the characteristics of distribution automation system (DAS), an integrated and open communication system over lP technology is introduced, which can support all DA functions transparently. The communication system is independent of any DA functions because of its characteristics of assigning each access point a unique lP addres s and all access points encapsulating their data in a standard format "lP datagram". The communication system follows ISO's layered approach, incorporates all ISO layer 1 2 protocols. and uses protocol built--in QoS and real time features.
