ELECTRIC POWER IN INFORMATION SOCIETY AND FACTS & DFACTS

Power supply quality is facing new challenges in the information age. It is proposed that FACTS and DFACTStechnologies are important approaches to meet the emerging requirements on power quality. Based on the overview of thelarge power system inter-connection and associated voltage stability and reactive power compensation topics, it is pointed outthat STATCOM should be the main aspect of FACTS researches in China. Key topics on STATCOM study are alsodiscussed. It is stressed that systematic research on DFACTS is necessary in China. the main contents include experimentalstudy on effects of power quality on various customers. monitoring and evaluation on power quality, comprehensivecompensation technology and systematic design.
