THE ULTRA HIGH-SPEED DIRECTIONAL PROTECTIVE RELAYING BASED ON FAULT COMPONENT OF COMPENSATION VOLTAGE

The fault component principle is widely used in power system protective relaying since it has lots of advantages. A new criterion of ultra high-speed directional protective relaying based on fault component voltage is proposed. This scheme aims on the fact that the difference between fault component voltage on the bus and fault component compensating voltage obtained from the given impedance is opposite, when a forward or backward fault occurs. The theoretic analysis demonstrates that this property has a lot of advantages such as unaffected by the fault resistance in a great extent, etc. So it is highly suitable to be used as fault direction detection component in protective relaying. Furthermore, the general rule of setting for proposed criteria is also described in this paper. The operational characteristics of new scheme under different situations are discussed in detail.
