DIGITAL SIMULATION OF DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF PROTECTIVE RELAYING DEVICES DURING FAULTS

In this paper a computer software simulation method is proposed, which can simulate detailed structure of any type of protective relaying device and test it with real fault currents and voltages recorded on the installation site of the protection or obtained by EMTP (electromagnetic transient program) simulation. This software is mainly used to find the reason of the maloperation or mis operation of protective relaying during faults. Compared with dynamic model of electric power system or other fault reproducing devices, it is cheap and more flexible and can save more time. What's more it can analyze the operation process and time coordination between all the elements in the protective inner software in detail. It can also be used in the process of new protective device design for the purpose of protection scheme comparison and optimization.
