Generator model is an important factor influencing power system transient stability. The influence of simplifications of speed variations in stator voltage equations and/or the torque equation on transient stability is quantitatively studied by using extended equal area criterion (EEAC). It is revealed that the influence might be important if sub-transient generator models are adopted. Suggestions on choosing appropriate simplification of speed variations are given.
