RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF AVC SYSTEM FOR POWER NETWORKS OF JIANGSU PROVINCE

The reactive power and voltage control (AVC) system presented in this paper is based on a hierarchical control structure. The secondary voltage control module maintains the voltage profile of the pilot nodes through an algorithm solving a quadratic programming problem. The tertiary voltage control module gives the reference voltage curves of the pilot nodes by a power loss least based optimal power flow (OPF) calculation. The common information model (CIM) defined by IEC 61970, an international standard for power system control, is adopted to exchange data with the existing energy management system (EMS) in the power system control center of Jiangsu province, China. Many other measures have been done to improve the reliability and robustness of the AVC system proposed.
