Realization of Dynamic Instability Detecting Relay in High Voltage Line Protection Devices

A novel detecting method for system dynamic instability is presented. The proposed method is based on an energy function to detect the changing trend of measured current amplitude, whose shape is like a bell mouth. This detecting relay is reliable and simple. Extensive testing results based on RTDS show that instability detecting relay proposed in this paper can ensure the detection of system dynamical instability, and hence improve the performance of high voltage power system protection.
