A New Improved Fault Component Distance Relay Based on Voltage Amplitude Comparison

A new fault component distance relay is proposed. By adjusting the compensated voltage comprehensively, the scheme synthesizes the performance of the impedance distance relay and the reactance distance relay and can detect the fault with high fault resistance in the setting coverage. For the receiving end, a new switching criterion based on the bus voltage is described, which is immune to the system parameters. The compensated voltage will greatly affect the characteristic of the new scheme, hence it is discussed in detail. Simulation results show that the new scheme can obtain high sensitivity under different operation conditions.
