A New Hybrid Simulation Algorithm for Power System with Static VAR Compensator

In power system transient stability simulation,the rapidly transient responses of HVDC and FACTS devices both in voltages and currents can not be simulated in detail,since the quasi steady state models for these devices are usually adopted.On the other hand, because electromagnetic transient simulation approach has the disadvantage of high computational burden and relatively low efficiency,a large power system is usually represented by a reduced equivalent system model when performed simulation using commercial EMTP software.The hybrid simulation algorithm presented in this paper models the selected power electronic devices such as SVC with the EMTP like electromagnetic transient approach and simulates the outside AC power system with traditional transient simulation program.The effect of frequency deviation on the electromagnetic transient simulation during and after a disturbance is considered.The hybrid algorithm proposed in this paper can provide a useful tool for studying dynamic performance of HVDC and FACTS devices.
