Reactive Power Optimization Based on Chaos Genetic Algorithm in Electric Power Systems

As genetic algorithm has disadvantages of slow convergence speed and early maturing in solving large scale reactive power optimization problem,a novel reactive power optimization algorithm is presented in this paper combined with the characters of chaos optimization algorithm,including ergodicity,randomicity and regularity.A new operator called chaos immigrant is introduced to the evolution process of GA to keep the diversity of chromosome.The algorithm solves the problem of prematurity caused by inbreeding,ensures global convergence and improves the speed of computation and convergence.A simulation is performed on a 42-bus power system,and the results show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.Compared with simple GA,it has been improved by 0.45 and 1.25 times respectively in computing speed and the probability of converging to global optimization.
