Analysis of Optimal Capacitors Switching-Threshold for Static Var Compensator

The mathematical analysis is carried out from the view of operational research on both the binary encoding mode of switching capacitors and the influence of the switching threshold on the compensation effect,which aims at value-tuning of the switching threshold of thyristor-switched capacitor typed static var compensation device.It is verified that the equivalence distribution principle is the optimal principle for setting the threshold of switching capacitors and the optimum threshold is obtained.The compensation response is more quick and accurate with the equivalence distribution principle.With the threshold value set as 1.2,the compensation precision can be increased by 30% by equivalence distribution principle.Proper setting of the switching threshold according to the system status can contribute a lot to the static var compensation.
